Chief Meteorologist for WIAT-CBS 42
Mark Prater is thrilled to be back in Birmingham as Chief Meteorologist for WIAT-CBS 42.
Excited to be headed back home, Prater says, "This is a great opportunity for both me and my family. We really feel like God has led us back to Birmingham to where we love so many folks." Prater adds, "Coming in to CBS 42 is a great opportunity and a great opportunity to work for a winning news team.”
Mark's a full member of both the NWA (National Weather Association) and the AMS (American Meteorological Society). He also holds the seal of approval for both the NWA and AMS organizations. After 19 years in television and radio, Mark has enjoyed being a meteorologist for markets all over the country. While servicing 9 television markets for ABC, CBS and FOX affiliate stations around the country, he's also broadcasted nationally into 22 million homes from New York to Los Angeles at INN.
During his first 10 years in Birmingham, Alabama, Mark was fortunate enough to be named Birmingham's Best News/Weather anchor for a number of years while on the air there.
Living in the beautiful Mid-Western U.S., Mark has enjoyed experiencing the various weather patterns of the mid latitudes of the United States. From blizzards to tornadoes, he also has enjoyed the new challenges of forecasting so many regions others across the country. Nationally recognized for his experience and knowledge of severe weather, Prater has been honored to receive the coveted National Edward R. Murrow Award and Emmy Award for his on air work as a Broadcast Meteorologist.
Prater also adds, "I look forward to bringing Central Alabama a severe weather coverage that many viewers have been asking for and needing."
Mark is married to his best friend, Carol Willis of Prattville, Alabama. Mark and Carol have four children who are the lights of their lives. Both Mark and Carol have truly enjoyed the television industry and the blessings they've received from it, but it's the time with all four of their children that they value the most. Their walk with Christ is something they focus on everyday with their children, teaching them how their relationship with the LORD should be the main focus in life.
Thanks so much for stopping by the page. The countless e-mails I receive from all of you each week, is a testament of how blessed I am to have each one of you supporting me!
